If you drove down Central Avenue over the summer, you may have spotted a ladder supporting a petite, bob-haired brunette, painting diligently on a wall between Sharon Amity Road and Eastway. Rosalia Torres-Weiner's recently completed mural serves to promote awareness of the Papalote Project, a multi-disciplinary arts initiative telling the stories of Charlotte children who have lost a parent to deportation. "Most of the people I talk to just don't have any idea what is happening to these kids, many of them U.S. citizens, and when they do take a moment to read the stories and understand what is happening, the response I most often hear is disbelief, followed by empathy," she said.
