There's not much Old Charlotte loves more than formality and decorum. That's why all hell broke loose when the county commission voted 6-2 to axe County Manager Harry Jones - and then didn't allow Jones to speak before he left the dais. Three commissioners complained mightily that Chairwoman Pat Cotham had insulted Jones; Dumont Clarke's feelings were hurt because he wasn't included in the pre-firing back-room finagling; and Kim Ratliff announced that she didn't want the commission to hire a white man to replace Jones. Who needs soap operas?
