Like spinach, sweet potato leaves cook down quite a bit, and have quite a mild flavor. At Zoewee’s Restaurant, the kitchen uses fresh and plentiful North Carolina sweet potato leaves for the classic Liberian dish, sweet potato greens over rice. Although primarily green, the stew also contains bone-in meat, onions, garlic and a touch of chilies. Zoewee’s is a bare-bones joint that has only a few specials each day. However, sweet potato greens and rice ($10) is its most popular dish and is served every day.
