Talk about an instant success. Each of the three annual stagings of The Blumey Awards at Belk Theater has been greeted with wilder enthusiasm than the last. Capacity crowds of students, teachers and family members cheer deafeningly for high schoolers from across the Metrolina area performing excerpts from their musical productions. And why not? One of the winners we sent to New York last year for the annual Jimmy Awards is now starring in the London production of Miss Saigon, and one of this year’s winners was among the top three who got to perform on Broadway.
