As Charlotte’s go-to comedienne for snappy cameos and supporting roles, McClellan hasn’t seen a starring role since 2005 when she was Affleck in the zany Matt & Ben. Recent howlingly funny triumphs have included her Madame Zeroni in Holes, That Grace in Junie B. Jones and a slew of cameos in Natural Selection. Local directors at Actor’s Theatre (Intimate Apparel) and Epic Arts (Queen Hippolyta in Midsummer) are discovering that McClellan also does drama. But as this dreary presidency drags on to its sorry end, we crave bigger comedy shots from the Queen City’s comedy queen.
