BEST NEW SPICE OF LIFE

Hispanic Theater

Staff Pick

It’s that new Hispanic thing that’s been percolating ever since Theatre Charlotte gave a reading-stage performance of Anna in the Tropics — in Spanish! — last summer. Since then, we’ve had Eta Carina and Orquestra Carolina at Grand Central Ballroom, sparked by Iliana Ramirez and “West” Bolz. Those Latin Nights were in the fall and winter. Then a few blocks further north along Central Avenue, Limbo opened at Carolina Actors Studio Theatre in the heat of July, an homage to activist Marie Gonzalez, an eloquent plea for the DREAM Act currently languishing on Capitol Hill, and an exuberant coming-out party for the Hispanic acting and dancing talent simmering in our midst.
