We don’t know why TV news stations everywhere have lost their minds over “special” weather technology, but we do know how “especially” irritating it is for that BEEP-BEEP-BEEP sound to blare in the middle of a favorite show, just to let us know a storm’s on the way — not to mention the times shows are pre-empted altogether, leaving viewers furious. Absurd depths were reached during the now-infamous “Tornados in Hickory!” debacle, in which endless, mind-numbing blather and snazzoid graphics ruined an afternoon’s viewing for millions. Get a grip, guys, and give us the info without being so thoughtlessly intrusive.
