The YWCA may be about as mainstream as mainstream gets, but don’t confuse the organization with its stodgy, conservative cousin. It’s less about gyms and more about, as its slogan states, “Eliminating Racism, Empowering Women.” The YWCA now is building transitional housing for families — housing Charlotte sorely needs.
