LOCAL ZERO

TIM D’ANNUNZIO

Staff Pick

The wild man from Raeford, N.C., isn’t strictly “local,” but he certainly got the attention of Charlotteans during his run for the 8th District congressional seat. In fact, D’Annunzio was so bizarre, he became a national story. First, he framed his campaign as a war against “the wicked,” hosted a fundraiser where donors got to shoot submachine guns, attacked fellow Republican and former sportscaster Harold Johnson as part of “the left-wing media,” and called for the abolition of 10 different federal departments. Then Timmy D topped himself on Keith Larson’s popular conservative WBT talk show, where he got into a shouting match and told Larson there’s “a special place in hell” for the show’s host. Timmy, we hardly knew ye — and that’s a good thing.
