Charlotte rapper makes Dreamville debut

Posted By on Fri, Sep 29, 2017 at 1:02 PM

Charlotte rapper Lute today released his first new material in two years, and it was well worth the wait. It's his first release since signing on with J. Cole's Dreamville label in 2015.

He also released a video for the album's first single, "Morning Shift." It shows Lute escaping from the fictional Slum County Correctional Facility in hopes to make it to his little girl's birthday party, but not is all as it seems.

Visit Lute's Dreamville page to download or stream the album on a multitude of platforms, and stay tuned to CL for more coverage, as Lute plans to drop by the 'Local Vibes' podcast studio this weekend, and we'll be getting that conversation to you within the week.

Episode 11

Posted By and on Thu, Sep 28, 2017 at 12:17 PM

Episode 11 gets off to a bit of a dark start, but it brightens up a bit as Phillip Gripper of Modern Primitives and Space Wizard discusses his work between the drums and the keyboard, as well as how his love for rollerblading and the upcoming opening of his skate/blade/bike/whatever park Oso, which he aims to make a space for progress in the community.

As always, don't forget to check out our iTunes page to catch up on all the old episodes. They're all good, believe us.

On a technical note, we are aware that we sort of make it sound like we're going to play you out with a full version of Modern Primitives' "Lay With the Dead," but due to shitty sound levels (Ryan must have hit the fader), we cut that so we don't damage anyone's ears. But here's the video:

"Tampa Bay is coming together in countless amazing ways to help and support one another in the wake of Hurricane Irma. It's truly inspiring, and makes us proud to be a part of this community," James Howard, the publisher of CL Tampa Bay, wrote in an email yesterday.

"In that spirit, we've created a Furricane Relief GoFundMe to help raise money for two local organizations going above and beyond to help local pets and wild animals despite limited resources, an already packed workload and their own Irma-related issues: The Humane Society of Tampa Bay and the Suncoast Animal League.

"Both of these outfits work year-round to provide shelter and services for domestic and wild animals throughout the Bay area (and often beyond)," Howard wrote. "Now is an especially critical and busy time, and we're asking you to do what you can to help. Every cent raised through this campaign will be split evenly between HSTB and SAL, and presented to both at our annual Best of the Bay Awards Party at St. Pete's Mahaffey Theater on Sept. 27."

Please go to the GoFundMe page and help CL Tampa Bay raise desperately needed funds for these important organizations.

He recently came back to Charlotte to see his kids and send them off to school for a new year, but we couldn't let him go without having him in the studio for a chat about how life in L.A. has been treating him, what makes him homesick and his thoughts on the Charlotte rap scene as it is today.

And don't forget to check out our iTunes page to catch up on past episodes.

But there's more than just lanterns. Here's the full nightly schedule:

5:30 – 9:30 p.m.: Family Activities
5:30 – 9:30 p.m.: Chinese Folk Art Marketplace
6 – 9 p.m.: Food Truck(s)
6 – 6:45 p.m.: Kung Fu Show followed by a Coaching Session
7 – 7:30 p.m.: Shadow Play followed by Backstage Activities
7:45 – 8:30 p.m.: Kung Fu Show followed by a Coaching Session
8:45 – 9:15 p.m.: Shadow Play followed by Backstage Activities

The festival runs every Wednesday through Sunday, from 5:50 to 9:30 p.m. until October 29.
