Going out in Charlotte doesn't have to be expensive. In fact, to prove that statement, we've compiled a list of cheap - $10 or less - things to do in the Q.C. this weekend. These events may vary, but they're all entertaining and they won't break your bank (piggy banks excluded).
Shop Micro Local at Triple C Brewing Company: We can't say enough about the reasons you should support small businesses (For more, click here), so just trust us and check out this Small Business Saturday event. The one-day-only pop up event will feature local and regional small businesses. There's food samples, holiday gift ideas, music and more. Free admission. Su Casa at Petra's Piano Bar & Cabaret: The Su Casa crew pays homage to the sounds of classic soul, which means cuts by artists like Rufus & Chaka Khan, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Diana Ross and more. DJ Justice Asaru-Re Uzn is on the turntables and there's also a special live performance. Movember Mustache Bash at Tin Roof: To raise awareness for men’s health — including prostate and testicular cancer and mental illness — the month of November is better known as “No Shave November,” a time when men show their support with facial hair. This year, Charlotte Checkers players and staff members have set their razors aside for the cause. They’ll show off the hairy results at this post-game bash at Tin Roof with prizes and drink specials. Nov. 30, 4 p.m. Tin Roof, 210 East Trade St., Suite 286.

A gunman was fatally shot by police after opening fire at "multiple buildings" in downtown Austin, including Austin police headquarters, the Mexican consulate and the federal courthouse early today. Officials reported that a bomb-disposal robot was examining a possible device near the police HQ, which was evacuated.
The mystery novelist known as the ‘Queen of Crime’, who wrote under the name P. D. James died at her home in Oxford, England. She was 94. She accumulated numerous awards for the 18 crime novels she wrote during a career spanning a half-century.
French President François Hollande visits Guinea today, and is the first non-African leader to visit one of the countries hardest hit by the virus. He is expected to announce more aid and visit health care centers. His trip is more symbolically important as a show of support for West Africa, which has been shunned since the outbreak was first declared.
Fashion trucks are headed to South End for Small Business Saturday. South End’s first fashion truck rodeo takes place Nov.29 in the parking lot of the Shu and Brief storefronts, located at 1426 S. Tryon Street. These mobile fashion purveyors are the first step for many entrepreneurs who aspire to a bricks-and-mortar storefront, and pack serious style.

A 20-year-old Rowan County man who identifies as transgender has been missing for more than a month. His family is pleading with the community for help after the car he was driving was found burned on Sunday. Elisha Walker's family was hopeful he would be home for Thanksgiving.
The fatal police shooting of a 12-year-old boy while he reached for an airsoft gun in a Cleveland playground has led to renewed calls for replica and air rifles to be clearly identifiable as such — a move doggedly resisted by the National Rifle Association (NRA), who have helped scuttled such moves in the past.
Human rights group Amnesty International released free software that allows users to determine if their computers have been bugged by government intelligence agencies. The Detekt program was designed specifically for human rights activists and journalists, whose computers governments regularly target.
.Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had a heart stent implanted on Wednesday, reviving talk about how long the 81-year-old liberal jurist will be staying on the court. Ginsburg was a leading advocate of women’s rights before joining the court: In the 1970s, she brought a series of cases before the court that helped establish constitutional protections against sex discrimination.

Culture PHOTOS: Blackish: The Social Event and Conversation at Levine Museum

On Monday evening, Creative Loafing partnered with the Levine Museum of the New South to host Blackish: The Social Event and Conversation. We wanted to give folks the opportunity to respond to the story we ran last month, in which we looked at what's holding the African-American cultural scene back from thriving in Charlotte.
About 75 to 100 people attended the event. Panelists included Kennedy Howard, co-owner of Sydney’s Martini and Wine Bar; Larken Egleston, brand ambassador for Republic National Distributing Company; Jasiatic, founder of Su Casa; and Michael Kitchen, founder of The Sol Kitchen. On Q Performing Arts' Quentin Talley and Power 98's Yasmin Young also chimed in on a discussion that ranged from the importance of supporting black-owned businesses and defining what culture really means to defining the differences between "young professional" and "non professional."
News Charlotte rally supports Ferguson with messages of unity

The scene at Marshall Park, directly across from the Mecklenburg County Courthouse, was calm and dreary Tuesday night, but there was an underlying sense of anxious anticipation that permeated the somber setting. Dozens of posters reading: “We indict the system,” and “Black lives matter,” among others, were held high while event organizers passed around clipboards for signatures and reporters took comments from members of the crowd filtering in.

Around 200 people gathered there to show support for the family of 18-year-old Michael Brown, and others like him, following Monday’s announcement that officer Darren Wilson would not be indicted over the fatal shooting of the unarmed teenager that occurred on Aug. 9 in Ferguson Missouri.
The local event seemed, at first, to be more light-hearted than the situation’s background suggested. People brought their children (some in strollers), there were T-shirts being distributed, and people were introducing themselves and sharing laughs. But that illusion quickly disappeared when the rally began.
