Going out in Charlotte doesn't have to be expensive. In fact, to prove that statement, we've compiled a list of cheap things to do in the Q.C. this weekend. These events may vary, but they're all entertaining and they won't break your bank (piggy banks excluded).

The Gay Divorcee at Main Library: The Main Library film series It Happened One Year: Classic Movies of 1934 concludes with a screening of the first picture to headline the dance team of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers (they had been supporting players in the previous year's Flying Down to Rio, the film that made the RKO Pictures suits see the writing on the wall - or, more accurately, the dancing on the screen - and scramble to find the duo their own vehicle). One of the best A&R offerings, this adaptation of the Broadway hit finds Rogers, anxious to divorce her stuffy workaholic husband, falling for hoofer Astaire. Fred sings Cole Porter's timeless "Night and Day," while supporting actors Edward Everett Horton, Eric Blore and Erik Rhodes are so hilarious that they were all asked to return for the dance duo's best movie, 1935's Top Hat. Nominated for five Academy Awards (including Best Picture), The Gay Divorcee earned the Oscar for Best Original Song ("The Continental"). Cinco de Mayo Chihuahua Races at Vida: This is about more than just a show of ankle-biters racing to a finish line. It's about a free trip to Mexico! Those who enter their chihuahuas into the race have a chance at the trip. The festivities also include Corona beer and margarita specials - for humans only. Proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Charlotte. May 3. Registration at 3 p.m.; races at 4 p.m. Vida, 210 E. Trade St. www.vidacantina.com.

Romare Fest at Romare Bearden Park: The Uptown park opened in 2013 to a crowd of people and dogs, who found cool in the grounds' water sprinklers and comfort along the benches. But what really makes this park so special is its location. You won't find any big shady trees here, but surrounding skyscrapers make up for that. The park honors Charlotte-born collage artist Romare Bearden, whom you can read more about on various signage around the park. The two-day Romare Fest is a fine time to get better acquainted with the park. The event is slated to feature live music and performances throughout the day. Free admission. Patio Grand Opening Party at Roxbury: The '80s venue has expanded with an outdoor patio where Cinco De Mayo festivities are going down with beads, T-shirts, party favors, and drink specials. May 3. Roxbury, 116 W. 5th St. 704-375-8090. www.roxburynightclub.com.

Fanta Festival at Route 29 Pavilion: This annual festival, presented by the Latin American Coalition, is your best bet for celebrating Cinco De Mayo. Not only does the festival feature authentic Latin American food, but interactive games and activities, folkloric dance performances, live music, costumes and a marketplace with arts, crafts and other goodies, too. This year's headliners include two Mexican songstresses: Graciela Beltrán and Yarel Ramos. Grupo Palomo and Grupo Mojado will also be performing.
