McDonald's workers and community leaders will protest in Charlotte today after several workers in California, New York and Michigan filed suit against the fast-food company, alleging unfair (not enough) compensation.

Starting today in Raleigh a federal grand jury will meet behind closed doors to examine the documents and other materials collected after prosecutors subpoenaed Duke Energy executives and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to find out more about their relationship. The documents might not be made public immediately.

The Charlotte-Douglas International Airport has reopened a runway after the FAA closed it last year to review possible issues with flight paths intersecting.

Scientists have discovered evidence of the "cosmic inflation" that occurred a fraction of a second after the big bang. "The universe ballooned from smaller than an atom to 100 trillion trillion times its original size, at a rate faster than the speed of light." In unrelated but similarly amazing news, scientists have revived moss that had been frozen on an Antarctic island for 1,500 years.

GM continues to recall vehicles, this time 1.5 million, after engineers with the company allegedly knew of since 2004 - but did not report until last year - faulty ignition switches. GM hired outside investigators to look into the matter, and Congress has launched its own probe. At least 12 deaths have resulted from the faulty switches.
