LOL: Comedy in the Q.C.

Listed below is a roundup of CL's top picks for comedy shows in Charlotte this week. Hopefully, they keep you entertained and, more importantly, laughing out loud.

Crown Station Pub's Kar-A-Jokie is an all around good time. Language and content restrictions don't apply to this comedy open mic, so you can expect a raw and rambunctious set (at least, we hope so). Comics sign-up at 8 p.m. for five minutes on stage. The open mic is followed by karaoke. $2. Dec. 18, 8:30 p.m. Crown Station Pub, 1425 Elizabeth Ave. 980-224-8020.

  • Jimmie "J.J." Walker back in his Good Times days

Jimmie "J.J." Walker has been a debatable topic in the media lately. Walker, now aged and still trying to be funny, is best known for his stint as J.J. Evans on the TV sitcom Good Times. But since the show and his longtime famous catchphrase, he's gone on to do stand up, and most recently he penned a memoir, aptly called Dyn-o-mite. In interviews, he's upheld his conservative and anti-gay marriage views and slammed Obama. This leaves us to wonder if he's really all crackle and no bang, but that's for you to find out when performs at The Comedy Zone Lake Norman and The Comedy Zone Charlotte this week. Either way, he has us steaming. $15. Dec. 18, 7 p.m. The Comedy Zone Lake Norman at Galway Hooker Irish Pub, 17044 Kenton Drive, Cornelius. 704-895-1782. $15-$18. Dec. 19, 8 p.m.; Dec. 20, 8 p.m.; Dec. 21, 8 and 10:15 p.m.; Dec. 22, 7 and 9:30 p.m. The Comedy Zone Charlotte at N.C. Music Factory, 900 N.C. Music Factory Blvd., Suite B3. 980-321-4702.
