UNC suspect also charged in Duke murder: A warrant has been filed charging 17-year-old Lawrence Alvin Lovette Jr. with first-degree murder in the death of Abhijit Mahato, 29-year-old Duke University computational mechanics doctoral student found shot to death inside his apartment in January. Lovette Jr. has also been charged in with first-degree murder in the death of Eve Carson, 22-year-old University of North Carolina student president. Demario James Atwater was also charged with first-degree murder for the Carson case.

Retail sales plunge by 0.6 percent: The massive decline in home prices and the credit crisis kept consumers away malls in February. Retail sales plummeted by a larger-than-expected amount because of it. This troublesome indicator shows that the country could be going into a recession. The Commerce Department reported that retail sales fell by 0.6 percent last month. Analysts had been expecting a 0.2 percent increase.
