The Latin American Festival will be held on Oct. 9 at Symphony Park featuring Aterciopelados, Xperimento, Jose Conde, Gersey Nicolas and Charlotte's Los Tarascos de Michoacán and Fusion Latina.

Here's a quick promotional video featuring Aterciopelados singer Andrea Echeverri:

Translation: "Hello. My name is Andrea. I'm the singer for the Colombian group Aterciopelados. I'd like to invite you to the Latin American Festival in Charlotte on October 9. See you there!"

"Aterciopelados is one of the biggest bands to come out of the rock en español movement in the '90s," Armando Bellmas, Director of Communications for the Charlotte Latin American Coalition says. "The band is a collaboration between multi-instrumentalist Héctor Buitrago and singer Andrea Echeverri. When the band broke out, Echeverri's style, bravado and passion for social justice established her as a role model for young women all over Latin America (a very patriarchal society to begin with). They have consistently produced funky tunes with a punk rock attitude that defies categorization. Their appearance at the Latin American Festival will be their first ever in Charlotte. We are beyond excited! They're legends."

General admission is $5, children ages 9-12 are $3, and children under 8 and Mint Museum members are free.
