The Deal: Grammy-award winning songstress hits The Fillmore to kick off CIAA week/end in Charlotte.
The Good: The 90-minute set gave her a chance to really shine her personality. Funny, bubbly and witty and oh yeah, she sang her ass off! Like a gospel singer feeling the spirit, there was no question she meant every word. It was like watching a performance from Glee, down right dramatic. The crowd participation part of the show was hilarious. Can you say 30+-year-old women breaking out Mary J. choreography? And while her music may have lifted male resentment a few percentage points, man-hating was minimal.
The Bad: Apparently lots of people missed the memo that The Fillmore was standing only, please believe plenty women had those heels off within minutes of arrival. Chicken plates were a little hood for a seemingly classy event. Could've lived without the the middle-age make out sessions that broke out during one song.
The Verdict: Wouldn't expect anything less from her, it was great show from someone who's slowly climbing into that top-tier of R&B singers conversation.
