Satellite Party w/ Mink

The Orange Peel, Asheville

Sept. 10, 2007

The Deal: Former Jane's Addiction/Porno for Pyros frontman Perry Farrell showcases new band, old songs.

The Good: Opener Mink played a solid set of retro-rock. Their energetic frontman was all over the place — in a good way — and did a great job of warming up the crowd. Farrell's new band may have switched up lineups in the last few months after guitarist Nuno Bettencourt left, but the new guys were just as tight. The band played a mix of songs from Jane's Addiction, Porno for Pyros and their own stuff - "Just Because," "Mountain Song," "Wish Upon a Dog Star," "Superhero" and the encore of "Stop" and "Jane Says." (They practiced "Ocean Size" during sound check, but it wasn't performed.) Perry's voice was in perfect form, his wife, Etty, writhed around while singing backup vocals and new guitarist Nick Perry.

The Bad: It wasn't Jane's Addiction. And it was a bit odd/funny that Farrell was wearing a black and white striped shirt - just like Billy Corgan did back in June.

The Deal: Farrell is an amazing performer, but it still wasn't Jane's. Keep your eye on Mink ...
