The victim of
a shooting in north Charlotte this morning is expected to recover, police say. The shooting happened on Free Bird Avenue at around 10:15 a.m. this morning. The man was reportedly shot in the leg before the suspect, who is believed to know the victim, drove off in a vehicle with other people. (Jennifer Miller, WBTV)
Police are investigating the death of a 50-year-old woman
whose body was found in a yard in Hickory this morning. Police say a nurse from Frye Regional Medical Center found the body at around 8:30 a.m. while coming to visit someone who lives in the same house as the victim. (WSOCTV Staff) Other outlets have reported that the death is being investigated as a homicide.
A man was arrested this morning after crashing his three-wheel motorcycle on Independence Boulevard, killing his female passenger. Police say William Short had been drinking before riding his motorcycle eastbound on Independence Boulevard at high rates of speed with 34-year-old Traci Gagnon riding as passenger. Just before 2:30 a.m., Short's motorcycle struck an unknown, dark-colored vehicle in the back near the intersection of Charlottetown Avenue, ejecting him and Gagnon. Gagnon was pronounced deceased on the scene. Short was treated for non-life threatening injuries, and upon his release from the hospital he was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, felony death by motor vehicle, driving while impaired and no motorcycle endorsement. Police also believe another motorcycle was speeding alongside Short, but the driver did not remain on the scene after the crash. (Ryan Pitkin)
U.S. Rep. Alma Adams
won re-election in the 12th district yesterday, beating out N.C. Rep. Tricia Cotham and former state senator Malcolm Graham to keep her seat, although
she'll be representing a newly drawn district. Adams beat second-place finisher Cotham by more than 13 percentage points. In the 9th, Robert Pittenger beat challenger Mark Harris by a mere 142 votes, according to the unofficial results. (Ryan Pitkin)
A man is still alive after being
struck by a vehicle while riding his bike and then shot in the the head in Rock Hill overnight. Police say they found found 37-year-old Tori Wilkes near the shoulder of Harrison Road with a gunshot wound to the head just before 11 p.m. last night. Wilkes was reportedly conscious and alert and told officers that he was struck by a light-colored four-door sedan before the driver, unknown to Wilkes, began shooting at him. He was airlifted to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. (Fox46 Staff)
