In the latest update to the story that will never die,
Gov. Pat McCrory has called for a full review of the I-77 toll lane project after the company contracted to build and manage the lanes filed for bankruptcy on a separate project in Texas. McCrory has now ordered that NCDOT officials look at every available legal and financial option in assessing Cintra's business model and contract. Crews have already begun construction on the $650-million project and hope to finish by 2018. (Fox46 Staff)
The Carolina Panthers announced this morning that they are
releasing defensive end Charles Johnson from the team. Johnson has played all nine of his NFL seasons with the Panthers. Johnson played just over half of the regular season in 2015, sideline by an injury for seven of the 16 games. He played in all three playoff games, recording three sacks. His 63.5 sacks over nine seasons puts him behind Julius Peppers for the second-most in franchise history. (WBTV Web Staff)
A man
opened fire on two managers of a McDonald's in Hickory last night, killing one and injuring another in what police are calling a domestic incident. Police said 22-year-old Richelle Lail was killed and 28-year-old Cody Watts was seriously injured in the shooting, which happened just after 6 p.m. at the McDonald's on Highway 321 and Second Avenue. Police later arrested 22-year-old Eric Yount in Lenoir. (Dave Faherty, WSOC)
Published reports have suggested that Stevie J, the star of reality show Love and Hip Hop Atlanta,
may have been the target of a shooting in Uptown on Sunday morning after a video of him involved in a fight hours before the shooting was posted on TMZ. Police have not made any official statement regarding the cause or target of the shooting, but did say they were concerned about two feuding rappers from Memphis performing over the weekend.
