Republican presidential candidate Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina representative in the Senate for more than decade, announced on a video released through YouTube this morning that he is suspending his presidential campaign, effectively dropping him out of the race. The most surprising part of this news in the Creative Loafing news room was that, until this morning, Lindsey Graham was still running for president. (Ryan Pitkin) 

A fatal wreck this morning closed a part of Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road, and it will reportedly remain closed until at least 1 p.m. The wreck, which involved multiple vehicles, happened after 6 a.m. between Hambright Road and Reese Boulevard. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials. It's unclear what caused the accident, which involved a car being pinned under a tractor-trailer, or how many people were involved. (WSOC Staff)

A much-anticipated showdown between Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman and New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. did not disappoint yesterday, and the bickering and fighting was highlighted throughout the game by dirty plays, unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and what appeared to be some serious head-hunting from Beckham Jr. on one specific play that may earn him a fine or suspension in coming days. In the end, Norman came out on top, as the Panthers handed the Giants a loss (see Norman's gleeful retweet below) despite the Giants tying the record for biggest regular season comeback in NFL history after fighting back from a 35-7 deficit to tie the game in the final minutes. A field goal from Panthers kicker Graham Gano in the final seconds sealed the win and let the Panthers continue a perfect season thus far. Lincoln County Animal Services has reportedly been fined $7,500 after hundreds of dogs and cats died at the facilities, possibly as a result of the outbreak of disease, in 2015. The outbreak reportedly peaked in September, when 56 animals were found dead in their kennels. According to reports, $5,000 of the fine is the result of the facility's lack of a plan for dealing with a disease problem. (Cleve Wootson Jr., Charlotte Observer) 

Authorities are saying that a woman who drove onto a sidewalk and struck 37 people, killing one, in Las Vegas last night did so intentionally. Police said the woman, who had a three-year-old child in the car, drove onto the sidewalk at least three times. Police also said the incident is not being linked to terrorism. Six of the victims were transported to local hospitals in critical conditions following the incident, which occurred just after 6:30 p.m. Before midnight, all of those victims were reportedly listed as stable. Eleven others were reportedly brought to a local trauma center and were all in good condition. The suspect is in custody but has not yet been named. (Cox Media Group National Content Desk)
