First Drip (8/7/15): Testimony continues at Kerrick trial

Donald Trump took a lot of flak at last night's debate. We at Creative Loafing believe that's the only thing really worth saying about the whole circus of an event. It's still too early to pay attention to these debates.

A man was shot in the stomach at Club 935 just west of Uptown last night, but is expected to recover. One man was arrested for the shooting. Police said about 16 shots were fired early this morning, and one woman was hit by a car during the ensuing chaos. She was the second person taken to the hospital. She is also expected to be OK.

A medical examiner provided what could be crucial testimony in the trial of former CMPD officer Randall Kerrick for the killing of Jonathan Ferrell yesterday, but it's still unclear which side the witness truly helped, if any. Thomas Owens, Mecklenburg County's chief medical examiner, testified that the shots were fired at a downward trajectory, confirming the account of CMPD officer Adam Neal, who was also on the scene at the time of the shooting. Prosecutors believe Owens testimony showed jurors that Kerrick used excessive force.
