First Drip (7/29/15): Full jury seated for Kerrick trial

The full jury is now seated for the trial of Randall Kerrick, the then-CMPD officer charged with involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of unarmed Jonathan Ferrell. The seating of the 12th juror puts the jury at four white women, three white men, two Latina women, two African-American women and one African-American man. The two sides are still looking to choose four alternate jurors. 

A spokesperson with national grocery chain Publix has confirmed officials are looking for a location in Uptown to put a new store. Publix came to the region in 2012, and opened its first North Carolina location in Ballantyne in February 2014. By the end of 2016, Publix will have an estimated 17 stores in the region. 

Charlotte firefighters rescued a man who was found stuck in an eight-foot hole at around 7 a.m. this morning in the University area. It was unclear how long the man had been stuck down in the hole. He was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with possible life-threatening injuries. 

By donating her organs, a 15-year-old Belmont girl who died over the weekend following a horse-riding accident may posthumously save the lives of four other children. A statement from the family said that Destiny Stafford's liver will go to a 5-month-old girl and a 1-year-old girl; her lungs will go to a 14-year-old girl and her heart to a 17-year old boy. Stafford died in Charlotte on Monday due to injuries from the accident she suffered on Saturday. 

A two-month long drug investigation by Wilmington authorities has resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old man and the seizure of 3,200 bags of heroin, worth about $50,000 total. Police arrested Antonio Walker and seized the heroin along with a 12-gauge shotgun, $2,700 in cash and packing materials.
