First Drip (6/8/15): Cowfish reopens after closing for illness

Popular SouthPark restaurant Cowfish Burger Sushi Bar closed temporarily this weekend after several employees reportedly came down with flu-like symptoms. The eatery was closed on Saturday but is now opened after consulting with the Mecklenburg County Health Department and giving the building a thorough cleaning and sanitizing. 


Hasan Harnett of Harrisburg has been named the North Carolina Republican Party's first black chair. Hasan, who has served as minority outreach director for the state Republican Party, had the backing of Gov. Pat McCrory and U.S. Senators Richard Burr and Thom Thillis. 


A 21-year-old man was shot and killed near his home in Concord on Saturday night, according to police. Officers found Loney Felder III lying in the road near the intersection of Meadowbrook and Cedarbrook lanes near 10:30 p.m. He died of multiple gunshot wounds. 


Charlotte City Manager Ron Carlee is reportedly leaning toward selecting Deputy Chief Kerr Putney to replace Police Chief Rodney Monroe following his July 1 departure. Putney has spent his entire 23-year career with the CMPD. Many expect the national spotlight to be on Charlotte and the CMPD when the trial of Randall Kerrick, charged with voluntary manslaughter in the killing of Jonathan Ferrell in 2013, begins on July 20. 


A four-year-old boy drowned at an apartment complex pool in northeast Charlotte on Sunday evening. First responders arrived to the Vista Vila apartments at around 8:30 p.m. and took the boy to the hospital where he later died. Police are investigating the incident.
