To honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his work during the Civil Rights Movement, there are numerous events happening in Charlotte and the surrounding area. So, where are you going to remember King's legacy? From parades and celebrations to lectures and hands-on interactive service projects, there's plenty to choose from.

Saturday, Jan. 17

Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration at Crossroads Church The day will feature fellowship, worship and music, along with a lecture on how to follow Dr. King's call to transforming the world around us.

City of Charlotte MLK Holiday Parade Each year the parade features marching bands and other special community guests. Kicks off at 9th Street and N. Martin Luther King, Jr. Growing the Dream Ceremony at Johnson C. Smith University A luncheon held to honor community members who work to foster unity and promote diversity and multiculturalism in the Q.C. Free admission. Jan. 17, 12:30 p.m. Johnson C. Smith University, 100 Beatties Ford Road.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Sunday Brunch Honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during a culturally and socially enriching afternoon that includes a live band, MLK-inspired performances and a brunch buffet. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Worship Celebration This service is designed to examine and celebrate the global impact of Dr. King as a moral leader. Bridging Musical Worlds at Excelsior Club A Sign Of The Times of the Carolinas performs pieces dedicated to the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in collaboration with UNC-Charlotte students and the Charlotte Symphony's string quartet. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Legacy Celebration For two days, Levine Museum of the New South is honoring Dr. King's life, legacy and the pursuit of civil and human rights through a series of films, performances, children’s activities and exhibits. The program's theme is “Universal Brotherhood” and will feature a variety of leaders in the community. Free admission. MLK Challenge 2015 The MLK Challenge is an annual service event held on Martin Luther King Day. Participating students are randomly assigned to groups and given a service project at a local organization for the day. Held at multiple locations. Free admission. Jan. 19. Listen, Reflect, Commemorate: King Day at Davidson College The schedule includes activities for children, performances, talks and seminars focused on social justice. The keynote speakers will be Rev.
