The Cheap List: 4th of July Festivals, A Passage to India and more



Going out in Charlotte doesn't have to be expensive. In fact, to prove that statement, we've compiled a list of cheap - $10 or less - things to do in the Q.C. this weekend. These events may vary, but they're all entertaining and they won't break your bank (piggy banks excluded).

4th of July Festival at U.S. National Whitewater Center, 4th of July Pig Pickin' in Plaza Midwood, and other Independence Day celebrations.

A Passage to India at ImaginOn: The film series Made in 1984: Hollywood Movies from 30 Years Ago continues with a screening of A Passage to India, the final movie from the legendary David Lean. Based on E.M. Forster’s novel, this study of culture clashes examines the relationship between an Indian doctor (Victor Banerjee) and two Englishwomen (Judy Davis and Peggy Ashcroft). Nominated for 11 Academy Awards, this won for Best Supporting Actress (Ashcroft) and Best Original Score. Free admission. July 5, 2 p.m. ImaginOn's Wells Fargo Playhouse, 300 E. 7th St.

Abstract Art Show at Mosaic: The mixed media exhibit features artwork by Jessica duCille and more. Art will be available for purchase and there will be a DJ and refreshments. Free admission. July 5, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Mosaic: A Lifespan Studio, 1101 North Brevard St.

JetSet Day Party at Phoenix: The day party series will feature music by DJ Ace. July 6, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. $5-$10. Phoenix, 300 N. College St.
