Fur and Feathers by Emily Andress

Time Collectors at Ciel Gallery: Artists Amy Hart and Emily T. Andress have created works that place an emphasis on nostalgia. For Hart this feeling is awakened through found objects that she rearranges to form structures that resemble animals. Andress, on the other hand, paints a compelling series of portraits based off of old photos. She uses thick brush strokes and blotted colors to form distinctive facial features. Free admission. Opening reception on June 6, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Exhibit runs through June 28. Ciel Gallery, 128 E. Park Ave. 704-496-9417. www.cielcharlotte.com.

Carl Plansky, Figures and Landscapes at Elder Gallery: Abstract expressionist Carl Plansky uses vibrant colors and spastic brushstrokes for his portraits and landscapes. The exhibit features both paintings and drawings that he created in his New York and Budapest studios. Free admission. June 6-28. 1520 South Tryon St. 704-370-6337. www.elderart.com.
