Going out in Charlotte doesn't have to be expensive. In fact, to prove that statement, we've compiled a list of cheap things to do in the Q.C. this weekend. These events may vary, but they're all entertaining and they won't break your bank (piggy banks excluded).

Hunt Slonem Book Signing and Reception at Allison Sprock Fine Art: It seems a little too timely that abstract artist Hunt Slonem is promoting his latest book, Bunnies, during the month of April. Using thick black lines, Slonem builds the body of these furry little creatures with floppy ears. Free admission. April 11, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Allison Sprock Fine Art, 600 Queens Road. 704-705-2000. www.allisonsprockfineart.com.

Spring Fling at Aloft Ballantyne Hotel: Bring a canned good for free admission to this event that benefits the Second Harvest Food Bank. Entertainment includes a fashion show, a DJ, Roaming Fork food truck, and a cash bar with drink specials. April 11, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aloft Ballantyne Hotel, 13139 Ballantyne Corporate Place.

Smurf Pop All Blue Paint Party at Bar Charlotte: As the venue's flyer states, "come in white and leave in blue." Free blue LED glow sticks, CO2 blasts, confetti cannons and drink specials ($2 beers and $5 vodka energy drinks). April 11. Free admission before 11 p.m. Bar Charlotte, 300 N. College St. 704-342-2545. www.barcharlotte.com.

Walking Tour of Biddleville: Ever got to thinking that you don't know the history behind your surroundings? If so, then this upcoming walking tour - presented by The Charlotte Museum of History, Levine Museum of the New South, Historic Charlotte, and Johnson C. Smith University - should have you lacing up your shoes for some enlightening exploration. Neighborhoods that will be highlighted include Biddleville and artsy sections of Charlotte like Plaza Midwood and NoDa. The program expands on Charlotte Museum of History's Charlotte Neighborhoods exhibit, which takes a historical approach to sections of Charlotte. The first walking tour starts with Biddleville. Free admission. April 12, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meets at KoKoMos, 100 Beatties Ford Road. To register for the tours, go to www.charlottemuseum.org/registerfree.asp.

Muggsy Madness at Solstice Tavern: The legendary Charlotte Hornet, Muggsy Bogues, makes an appearance at Solstice tonight. He'll be hanging out, taking pics and signing Hornets gear. Free admission. April 12, 8 p.m. Solstice Tavern, 3221 N. Davidson St. 704-342-2556. www.solsticetavern.com.
