The N.C. Department of Public Instruction said this week charter schools do not have to disclose teacher salaries like district schools do, despite receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in public funds.

It's tense down there in Union County: Lawmakers have moved to take control over school property from the school board. "Citing problems with the county's Department of Social Services, [School board Chairman Richard] Yercheck wrote, 'Union County has enough problems managing its own operations. The county should get its own house in order before trying to take over Board of Education functions.'"

The high-profile sex case of an army general who admitted to inappropriate relationships with subordinates came to an end today. Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Sinclair was reprimanded and fined $20,000, receiving no jail time.

The owners of Hartigan's Irish Pub has announced the LGBT bar/restaurant will close after this weekend. "The reality is that the building is getting older; and after 3 different landlords in 6 years, we are unable to sustain the financial and physical burdens of a more than 100 year old building," they wrote in a Facebook post.
