Updates on the storm from Gov. Pat McCrory and various state officials:

1. If you can, avoid driving today. Though most primary roads are clear, state officials warn of black ice. The head of the highway patrol says the worst accidents come not during a storm but from the very treacherous sounding murky residue, which will most likely linger into tomorrow as temperatures hit below freezing tonight.

2. Do go to your car and clear it of ice and snow.

3. Once primary roads are cleared, crews will start working on secondary roads. For a list of which streets in Charlotte get cleared first, click here.

4. About 48,000 people around the state are without power, which should return no later than tomorrow evening.

5. Call 311 if your car was towed for information on how to retrieve it. The fee is $85. If you abandoned your vehicle outside city limits, call the state highway patrol (919-733-3861).

6. Because the state's economy was essentially shut down for three to four days, McCrory says he expects negative long-term economic impacts from this storm.

7. I-77 was cleared six times Thursday before more snow came.

8. Police were instructed to check every abandoned vehicle for stranded motorists, which, McCrory says, led to no one sleeping in their car overnight.

9. Since Monday, more than 3,100 N.C. Department of Transportation employees have been working. About 1,470 trucks operating with plows and spreaders have been dispatched across the state, and more than 300 NCDOT graders have been used. About 35,970 tons of salt - about 30 percent of the state's supply - and over 13,615 tons of a salt and sand mixture have been used.
