The Orwells stun on Letterman, headed to Charlotte

Chicago garage-punk outfit The Orwells made their television debut on Wednesday night on the Late Show with David Letterman and buzz about the band has hit a fever pitch ever since.

The quintet of recent high-school graduates, who will be at The Fillmore opening for the Arctic Monkeys on Feb. 3, performed its song "Who Needs You" as singer Mario Cuomo rolled and writhed on the floor before taking a seat near Dave's desk. After guitarist Matt O'Keefe broke his strings at the song's end, Letterman and the show's band leader Paul Shaffer surprisingly called for an encore.
