REPORT: About 10 percent of applicants now covered through Affordable Care Act

The Department of Health and Human Services released a report today that details how many Americans have signed up for and received health care coverage through the Affordable Care Act.

Of the 1,081,592 individuals deemed eligible to enroll in a marketplace plan - about 1,509,883 applied - approximately 10 percent, or 106,185, are now covered. About 74 percent of applications were submitted online, and the rest were submitted through the mail. There have been 26,876,527 unique visits to marketplace websites.

In North Carolina, 57,653 applied for coverage, of which 42,110 were deemed eligible. About 15,000 could receive financial assistance with their coverage, and about 1,660 actually signed up for a plan.
