This week marks the end of several things. The month of October and the X-Men: Battle of the Atom storyline are just a couple, and Comic Afterthoughts will surely follow up with an opinion on the latter. But the one we'll discuss primarily today is an eBay auction posted by Heroes Aren't Hard to Find for this piece by Bernie Wrightson and Scott Hampton.

Steve Niles, known for penning horror comics like 30 Days of Night, ran into some trouble earlier this month, as flooding brought massive damage to his Texas home and belongings. According to friend and fellow comic creator Mike Mignola's Facebook page, Niles and his wife "lost just about everything." Niles himself has raised money for hurricane relief and other aid throughout the years, and Mignola is one of many to suggest that fans "pay it forward."

So, a Paypal account with the address HelpSteveNiles@gmail.com was created, where anyone can still send donations. Heroes Aren't Hard to Find, owned by Shelton Drum, also got involved, auctioning off the piece by Wrightson and Hampton that depicts John Carpenter's The Thing. Support swelled for the item, which would be popular with horror fans even without the charitable context, and it went on to amass $2,225 before the auction ended. That's $2,225 toward a comic scribe rebuilding aspects of his life.
