Due to unusually high demand brought on by the partial government shutdown Gov. McCrory announced Monday that the state would split $750,000 between food banks over the next few weeks. But, as WFAE points out, food banks were struggling before the shutdown, in part because of decisions made at the state level.

Senate leaders say they are close to a deal that would end the shutdown and raise the debt ceiling. House Republicans outlined their response to the deal on Tuesday.
