In conjunction with rallies and marches planned across the U.S. the Latin American Coalition will host a vigil on Saturday calling on Congress to pass immigration reform and on states to stop unjust deportations.
The Oct. 5 vigil, which also commemorates the national Day of Dignity and Respect for Immigration Reform, comes days after House Democrats released a comprehensive immigration reform bill that includes a path to citizenship for 11 million undocumented people in the U.S.
"The Day of Dignity and respect will show the House why they must act quickly on passing an immigration reform bill that contains a path to citizenship and keeps families together," said Jess George, executive director of the Latin American Coalition, in a statement. "We will continue to put pressure on members of Congress until immigration reform is won."
