COATHANGERS
In the current politically charged climate created by Governor McDouche and his "turn-back-the-clock" minions, the name these Georgia gals gave their band seems a little less funny than was intended. Incredulously, back-alley abortions may no longer be just a topic of historical interest. Moral Mondays have tried valiantly to stem the regressive tide, but it's just as key to keep celebrating life - don't let the terrorists win! And the combo of the Coathangers' raucous garage rock and Scott Weaver's weekly Shiprocked! bash is just the middle finger the Guv and his ilk deserve. Though their musicianship has improved over the six-year course of their catalog, the Coathangers still bring it raw and rudimentary, celebrating girl power in two- and three-minute blasts of buzzsaw guitars, pounding beats and yowling vocals. This is just the right setting, for in its long, successful tenure, Shiprocked! celebrates (so-called) alternative lifestyles with just as much gusto. $3. Aug. 29, 10 p.m. Snug Harbor, 1228 Gordon St.
