SCOTT WEILAND & THE WILDABOUTS (MUSIC)
Weiland parted company with his long-running band Stone Temple Pilots earlier this year. The word is that he was fired, but that doesn't deter Weiland as he hits the road with his own band in the "Purple at the Core" tour, singing STP songs from their most popular albums, Core and Purple. While Weiland's malleable voice helped power STP's grunge-arena rock in the '90s, and he gave Velvet Revolver (a couple of recordings he made with guitar deity Slash) a distinct croon, his solo recordings are laced with experimentation where Glam rock and sinewy psychedelia always bubble under the surface. He even dropped a quirky Christmas album a couple years back that has its moments. Incidentally Stone Temple Pilots, with new singer Chester Bennington (Linkin Park), will be in the area next month. While STP and its former singer duke it out on the tour circuit, the good old American pastime known as litigation has ensued between both parties. The Last Internationale opens. $37.50. Aug. 18, 8 p.m. The Fillmore, 1000 N.C. Music Factory Blvd. 704-916-8970.
