Mad Conductor
Led by MC Devlin, the experimental six-piece band known as Mad Conductor offers listeners a taste of what Devlin calls "renegade space rock." While Devlin raps, the band's instruments draw from hip-hop, funk, reggae, blues and psychedelic rock to create a bizarre and exciting new sound. Ripe with originality and full of energy since returning from a three-year hiatus (which Devlin spent studying kung fu), the band has been touring relentlessly to promote its sophomore album, MC Rises. Though they've yet to gain much notice within the hip-hop scene, the funky stoner rock is a refreshing departure from the heavier side of the rap game. With Rekless Youth, Aloha Broha, All Rise. $8-$10. Aug. 5, 9 p.m. The Milestone Club, 3400 Tuckaseegee Road.
