The crowd at the Fillmore on Friday night had plenty of time to get amped up with three bands - All Hail the Yeti, 3 Pill Morning and Escape the Fate - but even as those bands brought the venue's energy to a high, nothing compared to the burst that followed as headliners Hollywood Undead took to the stage.

Undead's antics make them as known as the masks they wear as a part of their stage persona. They're known for smoking joints through half of the set or playing barefoot - basically making themselves very much at home, and putting the crowd at complete ease. It's more like seeing your best friend's band play than watching a group who's sold a million albums.

The L.A. band came onto the scene in 2008 with Swan Songs, an album that is close to being certified platinum and clearly the crowd's (and the band's) favorite. Most of Hollywood Undead's set consisted of throwback songs from the record, paying homage to the band's past, though they also managed to sprinkle in newer material from their followups, American Tragedy and Notes from the Underground.

Even though the group's sound has wavered from album to album as it's gone from a mix of rock and rap to more progressive sounds, Hollywood Undead combines all of the different styles flawlessly. All the band members contribute vocals to bring an intensity which drives the crowd crazy. Moshing ensues, that is for sure.

What stood out about the set was the band's interaction with the crowd. It's clear the band loves their fans and remembers to include them in each show and to personalize it for them, something a lot of bands forget. They interacting with fans by bringing them on stage and speak to them as if having a conversation with friends, instead of talking at them like most bands do. It makes the group appear down to earth despite their penchant for dramatic flair (light up masks, anyone?) All in all the band brought its A-game.
