The Iguanas
Whether crooning a laid-back Tex-Mex ballad or ripping through a horns-fueled party number, this Crescent City, Calif., combo weaves a colorful mesh of Latin rock, Cajun, New Orleans funk and R&B that gets the joint kicking the moment they get going. A love of New Orleans is clearly in their blood: The city's musical heritage oozes out of nearly every track. In their numerous recordings, the swirling heat and the sounds of Louisiana low country have danced along with conjunto, even salsa, in a seamless manner for more than two decades. Their rollicking numbers also use the foundational support of strutting roots rock, which should get even the most lethargic off their collective bottoms and onto the dance floor. A summer Saturday night and the Iguanas are a perfect blend. Also on the bill for this night of New Orleans-colored music are Carolina Gator Gumbo and Zydeco Yaya. $10. July 20, 7 p.m. Neighborhood Theatre, 511 E. 36th St. 704-942-7997.
