OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW
Just try and keep your booty on the bar stool when the barn doors fly open and OCMS hits the stage. The combo's rambunctious acoustic music fills the air with high-energy American music that's all its own. The group harmonies and strings-filled hoedowns are part tent revivals, summertime front porch gatherings, rowdy honky tonks, jug bands, Depression-era blues and the musical ethos of Appalachia all poured into one big fat bucket of home-brewed hooch. This is old-time country and bluegrass to be sure, but played through the lens of restless youth weaned on rock and playing like seasoned old timers. Chuck Mead, former co-founding singer/guitarist of BR5-49, will warm things up. $30-$50. May 16, 7:30 p.m. Ovens Auditorium, 2700 E. Independence Blvd. 704-372-3600.
