Lucky Five

NoDa's Evening Muse is known for its intimate setting and coffee house vibe. There are bands, however, that throw that notion out the door along with the tables and chairs. Charlotte's Lucky Five is the perfect example of a strong group that can turn that coffee house into a raucous nightclub. Usually a quintet, Lucky Five combines the energy of rock with soulful vocals and jazz, funk and blues influences. There's no sitting or standing once the band hits its stride - which doesn't take long. Singer Marques Nash's keyboard skills go up against guitar riffs from Shago Elizondo and Jonathan Fung while drummer Jesse Williams lays down beats to prove he's one of the best in town. The truly lucky get to see them with sax player Adrian Crutchfield sitting in. Crushing grooves, powerful choruses and the constant pushing of genre boundaries have made Lucky Five a band to watch in Charlotte for years. Now, where's that new album fans have been waiting for? Live shows like this will have to hold them over for now. With Jesse Clasen of HRVRD/The Bear Romantic. $8-$10. April 5, 10:30 p.m. The Evening Muse, 3227 N. Davidson St. 704-376-3737.
