Cowboy Junkies

No one can escape easing into a twilight mood when Cowboy Junkies unfurl their haunting music. When vocalist Margo Timmins croons into the microphone, weaving her voice between the notes and beats, twilight gently fades into midnight. The Junkies' spare-yet-expansive music is meant to be heard in slow motion - no hurry, no worry, no bogus flash. The combo melds folk-rock, jazz-splashed percussion and psychedelic blues without pretension while guitarist and lyricist Michael Timmins' tales evoke a somber, lonesome beauty. On this tour the band will play selections from its recently completed four-CD Nomad Series in the first set and then perform their ground-breaking album, The Trinity Session, in its entirety in the second. By all means, feel free to linger till the sun comes up. $24.50 and up. March 7, 7:30 p.m. McGlohon Theater, 345 N. College St. 704-372-1000.
