There aren't many places around town where you'll see a robot made of old computer parts, a rusty set of rotors purposefully glued on a shelf or a bent mannequin arm that's been carefully shaped to try its hand as artwork. At Culture Initiative's Found exhibit at AKA Creative, these items along with other oddities are just what you may, well, find.

Past Culture Initiative - an arts initiative formed four years ago by Joel Tracey and Arthur Brouthers - showcases, such as Future, Today, Represent and Show & Tell have brought together an eclectic blend of music and art that shocks the senses.

But this time, during Culture Initiative's four-year anniversary celebration, it will be showcasing a collection of assemblage art. Random objects from antique shops, thrift stores, junk drawers, garages and attics, have been repurposed for the visual art form that utilizes two or three-dimensional compositions and materials. They were carefully placed, constructed and painted in ways meant to challenge viewers outlook on the ordinary, misfit items, while commenting on a range of topics.

Saturday's display will feature 50 to 60 pieces. Local artists used found objects of their choice and methodically arranged them in compartmental boxes that are hanging from the gallery walls. Items from the showcase - also available for purchase - will remain on display for 45 days.

In addition to the assemblage pieces, the event will feature performances from local band Sinners & Saints, Black Iron Gathering and songstress Rachel Kate. That Guy Smitty and Justin Aswell will be spinning mixes throughout the night. The Numnum A Gogo food truck will also be on site serving munchies.
