A group of 45 labor, peace, student and activist organizations from North Carolina, the South and others parts of the U.S. will hold a press conference on Friday to announce its intent to demonstrate during the Democratic National Convention in September.

Leaders of the Coalition to Protest at the DNC from Michigan, New York, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Florida and North Carolina will convene in front of Bank of America Stadium at 1 p.m. According to a press release, the organizations "work on issues ranging from immigrant rights to calling for a national moratorium on home foreclosures and intend to raise awareness of these issues at the" DNC.

It's had trouble obtaining permits for its September demonstration, according to the release:

The Coalition to Protest at the DNC has made multiple attempts to obtain permits for parks and a parade during the convention. City of Charlotte representatives have responded that all parks are reserved for the DNC and that there will be a new process for applying for space, but they are not offering a timeline for when this will be made public.

"The rights of the people to present their demands for economic, social and political justice to the delegates of a major electoral party must not be curtailed by excessive delay tactics. We are taking every step to ensure that a successful and safe march will take place in Charlotte that brings forth a people's agenda for workers rights and to end unemployment, discrimination and war" said Elena Everett, a member of the Legal and Permits Working Group of the Coalition to Protest at the DNC.

The coalition will also host a day-long conference on Saturday at the Charlotte School of Law to discuss its DNC plans. For more information or to get involved, visit their website, email info@protestdnc.org or call 704-266-0362.
