Contrary to popular text- and Twitter-speak, "PPL" is more than just a quick abbreviation for the word "people."

For Charlotte, The PPL is a locally grown initiative from journalists (independent and otherwise) and social media gurus who are banding together for all things media and DNC-related. Charlotte Magazine writer Jarvis Holliday explained The PPL best when he wrote: "It’s an organization of logistics to secure co-working and event space in uptown Charlotte for independent and traditional media during the DNC; to host parties, press conferences, and roundtable discussions; and to showcase the creative class of Charlotte and the South. It’s a community of DNC-focused bloggers, journalists, artists, activists, and independent media producers."

What a mouthful, right?

Tonight, the organizers behind The PPL are hosting its kickoff party at Packard Place (222 S. Church St.) from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. If you're at all interested in finding out more, here's the place to do it. Not only because so many influential, media-savvy (and let's face it — really smart) people will be in the building, but also because there's free beer and wine with music.
