Here is how screwy and dysfunctional our national politics are now: The media is pushing the idea that Rep. Michele Bachmann is a serious presidential candidate. Yep, thats the consensus verdict from geniuses like John King of CNN and the inimitable Dana Milbank of the Washington Post. And they actually mean it. God, please help us. Bachmanns star rose after the Seven Dwarfs GOP presidential debate Monday night in which she at least seemed human and relatively animated, unlike the robots, nerds, and crabby flame-throwers onstage with her. Also, for once, Bachmann was relatively coherent, which, as Bill Maher noted on CNN, gives her a definite leg up on Sarah Palin, whose recent Narcissism Bus Tour left a bad taste in many observers mouths. But, ple-e-e-ase Michele Bachmann? In what political universe is this woman considered a serious candidate? I guess in the same one in which an affable doofus like George W. Bush was considered a serious candidate.
As a public service and hopefully a wake-up call, heres a selection of actual quotes from Bachmann. See if you think she's presidential material
"What I love about New Hampshire and what we have in common is our extreme love for liberty. You're the state where the shot was heard around the world in Lexington and Concord. (Those first battles of the revolution were in Massachusetts.)
We also know that the [Founding Fathers] that wrote those documents worked tirelessly until slavery was no more in the United States.
This is not symbolic, this is why we were sent here and we will not stop until we repeal a president and put a president in the position of the White House who will repeal this bill, until we repeal the current Senate, put in a Senate that will listen to the American people and repeal this bill.
I wish the American media would take a look at the views of the people in Congress and find out: Are they pro-America or anti-America?
Does that mean that someones 13-year-old daughter could walk into a sex clinic, have a pregnancy test done, be taken away to the local Planned Parenthood abortion clinic, have their abortion, be back and go home on the school bus? That night, mom and dad are never the wiser.
Carbon dioxide is portrayed as harmful. But there isnt even one study that can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas.
Michael Steele! You be da man! You be da man!
Normalization (of gayness) through desensitization. A very effective way to do this with a bunch of second graders, is take a picture of The Lion King for instance, and a teacher might say, Do you know that the music for this movie was written by a gay man? The message is: Im better at what I do, because Im gay.
The immediate consequence, if gay marriage goes through, is that K-12 little children will be forced to learn that homosexuality is normal, natural and perhaps they should try it.
I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out under another, Democrat president, Jimmy Carter. Im not blaming this on President Obama, I just think its an interesting coincidence. (The swine flu epidemic of 1976 took place during Republican Gerald Fords administration, and, in any case, is irrelevant.)
The big thing we are working on now is the global warming hoax. Its all voodoo, nonsense, hokum, a hoax.
I just take the Bible for what it is, I guess, and recognize that I am not a scientist, not trained to be a scientist. Im not a deep thinker on all of this. I wish I was. I wish I was more knowledgeable, but Im not a scientist.
Unelected bureaucracies will decide what we can and cant get in future health insurance policy. Thats why theyre called death panels.
