This just in from Drinking Liberally Charlotte:

Screening Liberally in Charlotte w/The Cove

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010: 7:30pm - 10:00pm

Fellow Charlotte-area progressives,

On the evening of Tuesday June 22, 'Charlotte Drinking Liberally' will change hats and become 'Charlotte Screening Liberally' for the night.

For the first film in what we hope will become a regular series for us, we are showing 2010's Oscar winner for Best Documentary, The Cove.

As you may or may not be aware, we are part of a larger umbrella organization called Living Liberally. The distributor of The Cove is a big fan of DL's part in the progressive movement around the world, and has provided us with this DVD to share.

The Cove is the amazing documentation of a regular, massive slaughter and /or capture of tens of thousands of dolphins in a sheltered cove near the Japanese town of Taiji. Even most of the residents of Taiji, and Japan as a whole, were not aware of the practice. Nor were they privy to the source in local fish markets and school lunches of much of their “whale meat,” or of the high levels of mercury contained in dolphin meat.

These filmmakers risk life and limb to get the truth out to Japan and the world.

The Cove is an inspiring, enraging and heartbreaking film. But we promise, you'll leave feeling empowered as we'll provide you with ways you can get more involved.

In true liberal-fashion we want to take care of our planet and its creatures. And we want to make sure you see this film, so join us on Tuesday June 22, 2010.

Where: Our progressive friends at Charlotte Energy Solutions will be our hosts, http://www.charlotteenergysolutions.com/. just outside of Uptown in the Cherry Neighborhood at 337 Baldwin Ave.

When: We'll start the film at 7:30pm, but plan to get there by 7 to grab a seat (and a beer- we ARE Drinking Liberally, after all!).

Cheers,

Mark, Tate, Jess & Chris
