With the World Cup kicking off this weekend, Charlotteans already suffering from futbol fever (thats soccer fever for gringos) will be treated to a sneak preview screening of Pelada at the Neighborhood Theatre tonight, Tuesday, June 8.
Literally meaning "naked" in Portuguese, the film is a documentary following two ex-college, American soccer players as they tackle the globe in search of all the stripped-down versions of the worlds most popular game. Director Rebekah Fergusson will be on hand for an audience Q&A after the film. Proceeds of the screening will go to Street Soccer 945, a social change program aimed at helping homeless men and women off the streets.
$15 donation. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.; film starts at 7:30 p.m. Neighborhood Theatre, 511 E. 36th St. 704-358-9298. www.neighborhoodtheatre.com.
