Go Jordan. Go Jordan.
Way to set a good example.
Jordan Mitzel is living proof that anybody, no matter how young, can make a difference. As of Tuesday morning, Jordan, a fifth-grader at Blythe Elementary School, had raised more than $7,000 for the 2010 AIDS Walk Charlotte but he isnt done, and the donations are still coming in.
His four-year fundraising total now tops $23,000, Beverly Mitzel, his mom, said, making him one of the most prolific fund-raisers for the annual event.
Hes been among the top three fundraisers each year he participates, Beverly said.
Jordan first became interested in helping out four years ago, Beverly Mitzel said.
She works with the Regional AIDS Interfaith Network, and Jordan started asking about her work to raise money for people with HIV and AIDS.
Today, Jordan works year-round to earn money for the AIDS Walk, largely through recycling.
I collect cans and printer cartridges and cell phones, dead ones, Jordan said.
And for a donation, he and his helpers will flock one of your friends front yard covering it with pink plastic flamingos. The friend is then asked to make a donation to move the flock to another yard.
I first came to know Jordan after his mother started volunteering and working with our organization, RAIN founder and CEO Debbie Warren said. He really took to the AIDS Walk right away.
Though hes just turned 12 years old, she said his fundraising efforts make him an example to young and old.
